A new study has re-enforced the theory that teenage drivers are more likely to be involved in a road accident than any other age group.
Statistics from the RAC Foundation, covering a 5 year period from 2008 to 2012, showed that 17-19-year-olds were involved in 11.9 per cent of accidents that leave people dead or injured. This is despite the age group accounting for only 1.5 per cent of licensed drivers.
How Can These Risks Be Reduced
Whilst your standard driving tuition will teach you everything that you need to be able to drive a car successfully, there is no substitute for experience. The ability to drive on all types of road (including motorways and country roads) and in all weather conditions is crucial if you would like to be considered to be a safe driver.
If you are concerned that you don’t quite have the level of experience that you want, then the Pass Plus course could be just the ticket.
What is the Pass Plus?
Pass Plus is an established driver training course aimed at new drivers, particularly in the first year after passing their test, but can also be useful to more experienced drivers.
Statistics show that newly passed drivers are significantly more likely to have a crash in their first two years of driving, due to a lack of experience with different road situations.
Minimum of 6 Hours
The training lasts for a minimum of 6 hours. This can be undertaken on one day or over a number of lessons.
There are six modules within the training. These are:
- Town driving
- All weather driving conditions
- Rural roads
- Night driving
- Dual carriageways
- Motorway tuition
By completing these 6 modules, your overall levels of driving experience and knowledge will be greatly enhanced.
As a result, many insurance companies will offer significant reductions on your first years premiums due to your increased level of road experience.
